Quebec Labrador Foundation / Atlantic Center for the Environment (QLF) 2004 International Stewardship Award program aims to reinforce the work of QLF's International Programs by recognizing the work of fellowship alumni and supporting innovative projects that promote stewardship of
natural resources, foster community involvement in conservation, and
strengthen links across boundaries. The program awards small grants to QLF fellowship alumni working on innovative projects that reflect QLF's ongoing commitment to advance environmental stewardship and promote collaboration across borders. In 2004, the program was extended to the Middle East.

As an institution focused on environmental stewardship, JREDS was selected under the awards program to receive the 2004 QLF International Stewardship Award grant.
This assisted JREDS in its implementation of environmental stewardship programs and ecosystem preservation across national boundaries. Under this program, JREDS, with the assistance of QLF, instituted a Youth Environmental Education Program pilot project. JREDS held a national Youth Camp in Aqaba as a preliminary step to expanding the project to include other countries in the region. JREDS aims to raise youth marine environmental awareness in the Middle East region.
