GCIG Concludes Its Meeting in Amman

Integrated Technology Group (ITG) is proud to have been a sponsor of the Global Commission on Internet Governance (GCIC) event which concluded its final meeting on March 19. The event was held on 18th and 19th of March under the patronage of his Royal Highness crown prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah ll hosted by Oasis 500 at King Hussein Business Park.

GCIG meetings were held in Sweden, Korea, Canada, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Ghana and India, and now, the final meeting, in Jordan. The purpose of these meetings is to come up with a list of recommendations for an official commission report which will inform concrete policy recommendations for the future of Internet governance, by providing a framework both for coordination among advanced industrial democracies and for addressing the interests and values of states that are uncertain about the future of multi-stakeholder governance.

The event included a number of closed private and open public sessions discussing topics like the impact of the internet on government policy, cyber security, structured vs. unstructured education, internet inclusion and economic prosperity, internet freedom, and many more topics of relevance. The event brought together leaders, entrepreneurs, and professors from around the world who are engaged in international governance with recognized impact on significant global problems.

The Global Commission on Internet Governance was established in January 2014, to articulate and advance a strategic vision for the future of Internet governance. With work commencing in May 2014, the two-year project will conduct and support independent research on Internet-related dimensions of global public policy, culminating in an official commission report.

As part of ITG’s commitment towards enhancing education and knowledge for the next generation, Walid Tahabsem, President and CEO of ITG, has talked about the importance of online education and how it positively impacts the learning process in a private session about Education and The Internet, and a public session about Structured vs. Unstructured Education.
